An open participation showcase of storytelling and the spoken word. Featured Poets - Alexis Koome & Matthew Toothill. Plus an Open Mic at the beginning of the evening!

Alexis Koome

Originally from the Gulf Islands and coming to the Yukon from Haida Gwaii, Alexis has been writing poetry inspired by the west coast for nearly two decades. Involved in spoken word since high school, her approach & style has evolved along with her life. Her poetry weaves rhythmic stories that will whisk you out to sea and deep into old growth forests. The Guild Hall is her Yukon debut.

Matthew Toothill

Yorkshire puddings and English buttys, Toothill draws inspiration from the deep troubadour history of British folk and the poetry. He moved to the Yukon in 2018 where his anecdote/storyteller based performance solidified and his unique on-stage presence was born. Simultaneously striving for center of attention whilst suffering from overstimulation; his poems speak of the last generation before the internet and a world that moves too fast.

Open Mic

Artistic mastery is not required, let yourself be heard. A haiku, an anecdote, a prose poem, shopping list; you wrote it!? We want to hear it. All are welcome, each encouraged.

Join us at the Yukon’s most charming outdoor venue for this and more! ‘Round Back is located behind the Guild Hall (go left through the parking lot) and features covered and uncovered audience seating surrounded by a beautiful backdrop of trees and wildlife. This series happens rain or shine, so be sure to dress for the weather and don’t forget to bring some bug spray!

Cash bar.
