Written and directed by Yvette Nolan, The Art of War is the story of Nick, a painter who is sent to war in 1942. What he sees there, what he paints, will transform not only him, but Canada’s idea of itself. An examination of the role of the artist in war and in peace, the production features performances by Johanna Arnott, Joshua Beaudry, Skye Brandon, and Colin Wolf, as well as paintings created by Saskatoon-based artist Iris Hauser.

The Art of War is produced by Hardly Art Theatre and is part of Gwaandak Theatre’s Fifth Annual Awaken Festival. Find out more about the Creative Team and the Awaken Festival at gwaandaktheatre.ca/awaken-festival-2024.

Audience Advisory: Depictions of war that include loud sound effects (guns, bombardments, etc.) and the use of prop guns (painted lumber; non-firing).
