Irreverent. Heartbreaking. Funny. Change-making. Blocked! is a new, full-length Yukon musical. A comedic, challenging, and confronting investigation of gender-based violence and patriarchal oppression. An eviscerating satire with a big, juicy heart and lots of laughs. You've gotta laugh or you'll cry. Maybe both is OK. We're not judging.

Once upon a time...a young woman leaves the stifling cage that her life has become and ventures outinto the world in search of meaning, connection, and escape. Although she is unable to admit it to herself, she has taken the first important step in leaving an abusive, controlling relationship. As she wanders off the beaten path, she finds herself in an ancient bog where she encounters magical, mythical creatures and characters who help her rediscover her strength, resilience and her innercrone. She is guided (if somewhat weirdly) by Derp, a bog creature, who teaches her self-compassion.

In the bog she encounters ancient, hilarious crones who support her journey of re-discovery; some familiar-yet-not-so-familiar fairy-tale characters who hold up a mirror to her suffering so that she can see things clearly for herself; and many other endearing, insightful and equally-as-odd muses.

This storyline may or may not make it all the way to the reading. This is a process. Nothing is guaranteed. This is an amazing opportunity to witness a musical in the making and give valuable feedback to the writing team.

Blocked will be fully produced and presented on the Yukon Arts Centre main stage in mid-March 2023, followed immediately by a tour of Yukon (Watson Lake, Dawson City and Haines Junction) and Victoria, BC.
