Land, Language and Song with The Love Soldiers

Join Diyet as she takes us on a journey that celebrates the land she calls home, the language of her ancestors, both captured in the songs she creates. This concert will feature the video of her highly acclaimed appearance in Against the Grain Theatre's Messiah/Complex and Diyet’s music that blends traditional and contemporary writing. Backed by husband and collaborator, Robert van Lieshout on guitar and foot percussion and multi- instrumentalist, Bob Hamilton, her songs are an interpretation of a northern reality: hard, raw and will break you if it can but at the same time, always beautiful, gentle, strange and intensely alive. Continuing to live with feet firmly planted in two worlds, Diyet’s adventurous and sometimes chaotic life is on full display in her music.

"Hearing the mezzo-soprano Diyet singing "O thou that tellest" in the Southern Tutchone language, a translation she made with her grandmother, as she walks through the snow of her grandmother's village, is an unforgettable recasting of the piece.”

Anne Midgette, Top 10 Best Streamed Concerts for 2020, former Washington Post critic

"Diyet was wonderful: her focused timbre, a love for sweetness of tone and the most genuine personality one could imagine for any kind of spontaneous performance event. Her voice flowed from her like she was born to share it."
