Fondé à Montréal en 1987, Coup de cœur francophone est un festival dédié à la découverte et à la circulation de la chanson dans ses multiples expressions. Présenté chaque année en novembre à Montréal ainsi que dans près de 45 villes canadiennes, il réunit des artistes de la scène nationale et internationale s’inscrivant dans une programmation principalement axée sur l’émergence, l’audace et la création.

Cette année, à Whitehorse, Coup de cœur francophone vous présente le groupe franco-yukonnais Réunion Cajun et le groupe folklorique franco-ontarien Les Rats d’Swompe. Préparez-vous à danser sur les airs traditionnellement chaleureux de la francophonie nord-américaine!

Réunion Cajun Projet musical formé à Whitehorse, Réunion Cajun est un groupe de musique inspiré du son de la Louisiane francophone. Composé de Brigitte Desjardins à la voix, à la guitare et au triangle, de Keitha Clark au violon, de Ryan McNally à la voix, à la guitare et au violon et de Paul Bergman à la contrebasse, ce groupe prend un plaisir fou à honorer la musique cajun en interprétant les chansons traditionnelles de Cléoma Breaux, The Balfa Brothers, Canray Fontenot et bien d'autres.

Les Rats d’Swompe Originaires du Nord et de l’Est ontarien, Les Rats d’Swompe sont de fiers Canadiens français rassemblés pour partager leur passion du violon traditionnel, des chansons à répondre et de la musicalité d’antan. Basé à Ottawa, le trio composé de Yan Leduc, Martin Rocheleau et Patrick Pharand est l’un des rares groupes à faire vibrer le folklore en Ontario français. Déjà trois ans maintenant que ces jeunes musiciens d’expérience sont au cœur de la composition musicale du projet. Puisant dans les racines du folk-trad, le groupe franco-ontarien fait paraitre en 2016 La légende de Jos Grandbois, un premier album aux sonorités acoustiques. Le groupe y présente des pièces mettant de l’avant des textes principalement tirés du répertoire folklorique canadien-français. Que ce soit les jeunes enfants, les étudiantes et étudiants, les parents, les familles ou encore les personnes aînées, chacun peut tirer un plaisir à découvrir ou revivre cette richesse musicale qui nous a été transmise. Depuis le lancement de leur tout nouvel album Vivre en ville en mars 2018, la chanson-titre ne cesse de faire son chemin sur les radios francophones partout au pays, se trouvant dans plusieurs palmarès francophones. Reconnus comme étant la nouvelle vague de la musique traditionnelle en Ontario français, Les Rats d’Swompe reviennent en force avec un spectacle 100 % musical. Dans une toute nouvelle formule, le trio prend la scène, accompagné de musiciens exceptionnels, livrant des compositions originales et des reprises du répertoire folklorique canadien-français. Guitare électrique, batterie, banjo et mandoline se côtoieront dans une atmosphère trad-rock festive. Un solide spectacle avec une énergie à la fois sauvage et attachante.

Founded in Montreal in 1987, Coup de coeur francophone is a festival dedicated to the promotion and the discovery of francophone artists and their music. Presented each year in November in Montreal as well as in nearly 45 Canadian cities, it brings together artists from the national and international scene in a program focused primarily on emerging artists, their boldness and creativity. This year, in Whitehorse, leave it to Réunion Cajun and Les Rats d’Swompe to make you dance on Louisiana francophone music and traditional French-Canadian folk music!

Réunion Cajun A musical project formed in Whitehorse, the band Cajun Reunion draws its inspiration from the music of Francophone Louisiana. Consisting of Brigitte Desjardins on vocals, guitar and triangle, Keitha Clark on the fiddle, Ryan McNally on vocals, guitar and fiddle, and Paul Bergman on the stand-up bass, this band takes great delight in honouring Cajun music through their interpretation of traditional songs by Cléoma Breaux, The Balfa Brothers, Canray Fontenot and many more.

Les Rats d’Swompe Originally from Northern and Eastern Ontario, Les Rats d’Swompe are proud French Canadians who have joined together to share their passion for traditional fiddle music, call-and-response songs and old-time musicality. Based in Ottawa, the trio Yan Leduc, Martin Rocheleau and Patrick Pharand is one of the rare bands bringing folk music to the Franco-Ontarian stage. For three years now already, these young but experienced musicians have been immersed in composing music for the project. Drawing from folk-trad roots, this Franco-Ontarian band put out their first album, the acoustic “La légende de Jos Grandbois” (“The Legend of Joe Grandbois”), in 2016. The songs on this album feature lyrics which have been chiefly pulled from French-Canadian folk music. Kids, students, parents, families, seniors – everyone and anyone can enjoy discovering or rediscovering a rich musical heritage that has been passed down from generation to generation. Ever since the release of their new album “Vivre en ville” (“Living in the City”) in March 2018, the title track has been continually making its way onto the French airwaves all over the country, including on several French music charts. Having emerged as the new wave of Franco-Ontarian traditional music, Les Rats d’Swompe are making a comeback with a show that’s 100% about music. With a brand new formula for success, the trio is taking the stage alongside some exceptional musicians, delivering original songs and remakes from the French-Canadian folk tradition. An electric guitar, drums, a banjo and a mandolin are added to their festive trad-rock atmosphere, resulting in a show that’s infused with an energy that’s as wild as it is contagious.
